Republicans Control Concord. You're Paying the Price.
Tax Breaks for the Wealthy.
Higher Property Taxes for the Rest of Us.
Republicans hold commanding majorities in both the New Hampshire House and Senate. They've had years to address rising property taxes. Instead, Republican-led majorities have repeatedly cut state taxes while shifting more financial responsibility onto local communities.
The result? Wealthy taxpayers and profitable corporations benefit from state tax cuts, while homeowners face mounting property tax bills.
$3 BILLION IN COSTS SHIFTED TO LOCAL TAXPAYERS
Over the past decade, New Hampshire has shifted an estimated $3 billion in costs from the state onto towns, cities, counties, and school districts.
Here's how Concord's decisions are affecting your wallet:
Tax Breaks for the Wealthy: Republican-led majorities reduced business taxes and eliminated the Interest and Dividends Tax, which disproportionately benefited higher-income households. These decisions reduced state revenue while local communities continued struggling to fund essential services.
Public Schools Left Underfunded: An estimated $2.1 billion—70% of the shifted costs— has fallen on local school districts. When the state fails to adequately fund education, local property taxpayers are left making up the difference.
Private School Vouchers Keep Expanding: While public schools struggle for adequate funding, Republican lawmakers have expanded taxpayer-funded private school vouchers without an overall program spending cap or universal income limits. Even wealthy families can qualify for taxpayer-funded subsidies.
Local Communities Pay More: State funding decisions have also placed greater pressure on towns and counties to cover costs associated with public safety, roads, retirement contributions, and essential services.
Same Representatives. Same Policies. Same Problems.
Salem keeps sending Republican representatives to Concord. Yet property taxes remain a major burden on hardworking families, seniors, and homeowners.
They've had years to change course. Instead, they've supported policies that reduce state revenue, expand private school subsidies, and leave local taxpayers carrying more of the burden.
It's Time to Demand Better.
Salem deserves representatives who put working families ahead of tax breaks for the wealthy.
We need leaders who will fight to lower property taxes, fully fund our public schools, and stop shifting Concord's financial responsibilities onto local homeowners.
On November 3rd, hold them accountable.
